Over $2 million in contraband goods has been intercepted with an importer being granted $250,000 bail.

On October 27th, 2023 a container was examined at the Point Lisas Port by Customs and the TTPS leading to the discovery of 800 cases of Carnival cigarettes, 100 cases of Black and White Scotch whiskey and 200 cartons of Christmas decorations.

The importer, Videsh Baboolal, was charged with breaches of the Customs Act.

He was granted $250,000 bail with surety when he appeared at the Couva Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
