One person was held over the weekend after authorities found what appeared to be nine Scarlet Ibis carcasses.
The suspect was held at Cacandee Road, Felicity after a warrant was executed by members of the Central Game Warden Unit attached to the Forestry Division, in collaboration with the TTPS Southern Division Task Force.
Investigations are continuing.
In a statement commending the exercise, the EMA reminds that the Scarlet Ibis is listed as an Environmentally Sensitive Species.
It is offered the highest level of wildlife protection in T&T, with the law prohibiting the disturbance, harm or sale of the species and its eggs, and the destruction of its habitat.
It adds that the penalty for causing damage to the national bird and any other ESS is $100,000 and imprisonment for two years.
