“Worldwide Caution” issued for U.S. citizens

The U.S. has issued a worldwide travel advisory, urging its citizens to exercise increased caution when overseas.

It says this is “due to increased tensions in various locations around the world”.

It adds that there is “the potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations or violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests…”

U.S. citizens are also being advised to stay vigilant in locations popular with tourists, and to sign up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program which can provide information and make it easier to locate them in an emergency.

Meanwhile in the midst of the Israel-Hamas conflict, the U.S. government has authorized the departure of family members of U.S. government personnel and some non-emergency personnel from Mission Israel and Lebanon.

With regard to citizens in Israel and the West Bank, it says the U.S. government is facilitating charter flight transportation for citizens.

U.S. citizens are also being encouraged to depart if possible via the border crossings into, including Sheikh Hussein and Allenby Bridge.

As for U.S. citizens in Gaza, the State Department says military has made identifying departure options complex.

It says work is continuing on potential options for departure, with U.S. government officials working 24/7 to try to assist.
