The Finance Minister says the law governing collection of the property tax will have a provision to cover those who may not be able to pay.
This assurance was given by Mr Colm Imbert, as he kicked off the Budget debate in the Senate this morning.
He says significant progress has been made as the Government gets ready to collect in the 2024 financial year.
Mr Imbert says the law will also ensure property tax monies are used to benefit the communities from which they were collected.
Also contributing to the debate was UNC Senator Wade Mark, who accused the Government of adding to the burden of an already financially stressed population.
He zeroed in on the new electricity rates outlined by the R.I.C. yesterday, calling for this to be rolled back by the Government.
The debate is continuing in the Senate at this time.
