Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram says there should be no fee to use the public washroom at City Gate in Port of Spain.
During today’s sitting of the Standing Finance Committee, he called a for the $2 fee to be removed, saying it comes across as a new tax.
He also maintained that such a “toilet tax” affects mainly the vulnerable and less fortunate and should not be enforced in any other public area in which it is currently being collected.
Responding during the sitting was Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan who said it was being reviewed.
