The Central Statistical Office has released the Index of Retail Prices for the month of September 2023.
It noted an increase of 0.8% in the index for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, when compared to August.
Contributing to that increase was the general upward movement in the prices of several products, including Irish potatoes, cucumber, soya bean oil, onions, mixed fresh seasoning and chilled or frozen chicken.
However, it said the full impact of the price increases were offset by general decreases in the prices of pumpkin, fresh whole chicken, table margarine, parboiled rice, white flour, and tomatoes among other products.
According to the CSO, decreases of 0.7% were also recorded in Clothing & Footwear, as well as 0.1%, in the Health sector.
