The House Speaker of the House of Representatives has issued a reminder to MPs that they must refrain from “excessive crosstalk” while other members are presenting during the budget debate.
In a ruling today, Speaker Bridgid Annisette-George said a review of the Hansard was requested yesterday to determine whether Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram made a statement suggesting improper motives against another member.
After that review, Mrs Annisette-George said the alleged remark was inaudible over the noise in the Chamber.
She added that while a quiet level of banter may take place across the aisle during the debate, order and decorum must be maintained to uphold the dignity of the House.
