Gaza authorities warn of humanitarian crisis as fuel runs out

Gaza’s power authority says the area’s sole power plant will run out of fuel within hours, leaving the Palestinian territory without electricity.

According to Al Jazeera, this comes after Israel cut off supplies in retaliation to recent attacks by Hamas.

Gaza’s authorities say the situation creates a humanitarian crisis for all residents of the Gaza Strip.

It called on the international community to move quickly to stop what it is calling a “crime against humanity.”

In the latest from BBC News on the matter, it reports that US President Joe Biden has said Israel has a right and a duty to respond to Hamas’ attacks over the weekend.

He added that the US would “stand with Israel” and provide whatever assistance it needed.

Mr Biden said at least 14 Americans had been killed in the attacks and other US citizens had been taken hostage.
