Former Director of the National Operations Centre Garvin Heera believes government should partner with Venezuelan law enforcement to address what he calls a “new type of criminality.”
Speaking at last evening’s Supermarket Association post-budget discussion, he spoke on the matter of crime, which he said is making citizens “shiver”.
Mr Heera said efforts must also focus on the impact of criminality stemming from Latin America.
Giving an example, he said issues such as extortion of businesses for protection money can lead to another form of crime.
Mr Heera said government should extend relations with Venezuela to give local police more intelligence on this type of crime.
Mr Heera is hopeful that new crime-fighting measures will be announced as the budget debate in conducted, starting today.
