TTCIC wants timely access to forex, effective implementation of property tax

The T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce says while it has identified some positives from the 2023/24 budget, there are some concerns to be addressed immediately.

These, it says, are timely access to foreign exchange and effective implementation of property tax.

It says it is pleased by the announcement that the Minister is reviewing the recommendation made by the Chamber to aid SMEs in their access to foreign exchange.

On the property tax, the Chamber believes implementation will require careful planning and execution to ensure fairness and compliance.

The organization also says it understands the need for an increase in the minimum wage, which calls on employers and employees to focus on efficiency, productivity and output.

In terms of crime, it believes the proposed increase in recruitment of police officers will help but reiterates the need for collaboration with other stakeholders including the private sector and civil society.
