An accident along the Uriah Butler Highway has this morning claimed the life of a Chaguanas man.

According to police, around 2:45am, a dump truck heading south in the Guayamare River area swerved to avoid an accident with an unknown vehicle.

The truck then hit a concrete culvert and ended up stopping across the right and centre lanes of the southbound.

A Mitsubishi Lancer heading southbound along the right lane collided with the truck, lost control and hit a light pole.

The driver of the Lancer, identified as Rishard Hosein of Lange Park, died as a result of the collision.
