Over $100 million worth of marijuana was seized by police in La Romain last night.
The TTPS says sometime in August 2023, information was received about a drug trafficking network operating in the South Western peninsula, with ties to Colombian and Venezuelan cartels.
Following surveillance exercises, several key members of the network were identified, along with a location where the network allegedly had intentions to import narcotics.
At 9pm yesterday, the TTPS mobilized a team that intercepted a Kia K2700 vehicle in the vicinity of Paria Suites.
In the vehicle, they found 28 plastic wrapped bales containing 704 kilograms of high grade marijuana, with a street value of $105,473,280.
The vehicle’s two occupants were also held.
Police Commissioner Erla Christopher said, “the TTPS will continue to relentlessly dismantle the systems, networks and operations set up by local and international criminals, whose actions and selfish greed act as a catalyst for murders, shootings, gang violence and other serious crimes.”
