MP urges government to address WASA, T&TEC debt in budget

Government is being urged to deal with their debt to WASA and T&TEC in the upcoming budget.

Ahead of the October 2nd, 2023 reading of the fiscal package, Princes Town MP Barry Padarath is calling on Finance Minister Colm Imbert to settle their outstanding arrears to the utility companies.

MP Padarath says a clear path to addressing the debt must be articulated by the Minister in his budget statement.

The MP notes that the arrears have left the companies in dire situations and warns that any attempt to pass the burden on to citizens would be resisted.

He reiterates that government should not implement any new rates for WASA and T&TEC at this time, but instead repay the debts and get them “out of the red.”
