Multi-million dollar project launched for South Oropouche River Basin

A US$10 million four-year project has been launched, aimed at flood relief measures in the South Oropouche River Basin.

According to the Planning Ministry, details of the project were shared this week at the Debe High School by the Ministry, the Development Bank of Latin America and UWI.

The Ministry says the South Oropouche River Basin was chosen as a result of consideration of a number of factors.

These include vulnerability to flooding, population density, commercial and agricultural activities, and impacts on citizens, as well as the size of the catchment.

The project will be nationally led by the Planning Ministry and executed by UWI through the St. Augustine Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
