Shakira put on a memorable show as she performed a career-spanning medley of hits at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she was presented with a Lifetime Achievement honour.
The Colombian star crowd surfed, dances with knives, and played a fiery guitar solo.
The award was presented to her by Wyclef Jean who said: “Latin music would not be the global force that it is without Shakira.”
The night’s other big winner was Taylor Swift, who earned nine trophies.
They including the big prize – Video of the Year for the self-directed Anti-Hero promo – as well as Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects, all for Anti-Hero.
She was also awarded Album of the Year for Midnights, and Artist of the Year and Show of the Summer.
The night also saw an ‘NSync reunion, with Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, and Joey Fatone getting together on stage to present Swift with the Pop award.
Another memorable performance came from Olivia Rodrigo, who gave onlookers a scare when there appeared to be malfunctions as she sang “Vampire” – pyrotechnics began to misfire, parts of the set fell to the ground and the singer was led off stage.
But it turned out to be an elaborate prank – a reference to the “Vampire” music video, which features a similar storyline – and she was soon back on the stage to continue her performance.
