The National Hurricane Centre says weather watches could be required for Bermuda later today in relation to Hurricane Lee.
Lee is currently located just north of Puerto Rico and East of the Bahamas, and expected to pass near but to the west of Bermuda in a few days.
It is a Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 185 km/h, however the NHC says gradual weakening is forecast during the next few days.
Swells generated by this system are affecting portions of the Lesser Antilles, the British and U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, and Bermuda.
Dangerous surf and rip currents are also affecting coastal areas in the south-eastern United States, and these forecast to spread northward along the U.S. East Coast during the next couple of days.
NB: Hurricane Lee poses no threat to T&T.
