The Prison Service is denying allegations that a prisoner was beaten to death at the Golden Grove Prison.
The claim is being circulated via social media platforms, however the Service says these are “malicious and inaccurate”.
It says the prisoner named Kerryn Jerome was being housed at the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre and had been ailing for some time.
According to the Prison Service, Jerome was admitted to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he died on September 5th.
Acting Prisons Commissioner Deopersad Ramoutar condemned the claims, saying such unconfirmed reports are “extremely disconcerting, unethical and unprofessional and are viewed as deliberate attempts to tarnish the operations of the Prison Service.”
