Hurricane Idalia is crossing into Georgia, bringing powerful winds and potentially life-threatening conditions.
President Joe Biden says Idalia is “still very dangerous” after it landed in Florida as a Category 3 storm.
As at 4pm, it was listed at Category 1.
The BBC reports that more than 450,000 people are without power in Florida and Georgia.
Some areas of Florida have been flooded, and the National Hurricane Center warns that storm surge still threatens coastal areas.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says there are no officially confirmed storm deaths, though Florida Highway Patrol says two drivers died in crashes.
The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency says Idalia is the strongest storm to hit certain parts of Florida in more than 100 years.
