Ministry honors centenarian Nathaniel Beharry

New centenarian Nathaniel Beharry says the secret to his longevity is breathing fresh air and drinking lots of water.

He turned 100 on August 28th and was honored by the Social Development Ministry’s Division of Ageing.

To mark the occasion, his children hosted a birthday celebration at his Tamana home.

Fondly called “Dastan”, the Grenada native migrated to T&T in 1958 and began working on an estate.

He met his wife Theodora in Tamana and they were married for 55 years until her death in 2018.

He is a father to five, grandfather to 10, and great-grandfather of three.

Mr Beharry said the most important lesson he learned is to work hard for what you need and want.

When asked how he felt about reaching 100, he said, “I want to make more. I don’t know how long, that man up dey have to tell me.”
