Ministry – trade dispute report was not made between CAL and TTALPA

The Labour Ministry says it does not have a report of a trade dispute concerning salary negotiations between Caribbean Airlines and the T&T Airline Pilots Association (TTALPA).

This statement follows a recent incident where many pilots called in sick, causing flight disruptions that stranded thousands of travellers.

CAL secured an Industrial Court injunction for the pilots to return to work on August 21st, while the Association said it was unaware of any strike.

The Ministry says in December 2021, it received a letter from TTALPA about a breakdown in negotiations with CAL on a revised collective agreement for the period 2015 to 2018.

It said a reply was sent to TTALPA that the stipulated timeframe to report the dispute had passed.

The Ministry also claims that despite numerous exchanges between it and the Association’s consultant, an official request on the dispute has not been made.
