CAL CEO: Airline and pilots’ union reaffirm commitment to passengers

Caribbean Airlines CEO Garvin Medera says the airline and the pilots’ union have reaffirmed their commitment to travellers, to avoid a recurrence of this weekend’s flight delays.

Over 50 pilots called in sick, affecting about 60 flights and leading CAL to charter flights to transport the delayed passengers.

An injunction was granted by the court ordering pilots back out to work, although the pilots’ union said it was not aware of action being taken by its members.

At a media conference this morning, Mr Medera said the situation was unexpected as there had been ongoing negotiations for additional pay increases above the annual rate of 3%.

He said after the situation unfolded on Sunday, CAL met with the pilots’ union on Monday, where both parties reportedly agreed to work towards an amicable solution.
