EMA moves to combat land degradation

The EMA says it is engaged in a project to combat land degradation involving the rehabilitation of old quarry pits.

The Authority says it is replacing 18 hectares of exhausted quarry pits with nature-based methods.

This announcement follows the hosting of a recent consultation on land degradation and combating the extinction of plant and animal species.

Attending the consultation were government agencies, the private sector, and NGOs.

In August 2000, T&T agreed to implement a United Nations Convention to combat land degradation, and also to a Sustainable Development Goal Target to restore degraded land and soil by 2030.
