A man and woman were robbed when they went to George Street in Port of Spain to view a car advertised for sale on Facebook.

According to the T&T Guardian, the 20-year-old woman and 24-year-old man from Sangre Grande went to the area around 6pm to meet the owners of a black Nissan Almera.

They were reportedly confronted by six men who bandits stole a cellphone and $500 cash from the man and a gold chain from the woman.

The assailants escaped by running away in different directions.

In the past, police are warned people to be cautious when conducting online purchases.

They recommend avoiding meeting in places you are unfamiliar with or in high crime areas and being wary of sellers who request to meet at odd times or who request large sums of money in cash.
