Search efforts for nine-year-old Omari Providence continued into the early hours of this morning, but the child remains missing at sea.

Omari disappeared while bathing at Mission Bay in Toco around 1:30pm on Sunday.

Rescue officials say efforts last night were timed to coincide with the low tide around 11pm.

The search combed several kilometres both to the east and west of Mission Bay, but to no avail.

The TTPS Air Support Unit has also been involved in the efforts to find Omari.
