Anticipation is high for the 2023 Caribbean Music Awards.
This will take place in New York City on August 31st 2023.
Legendary artiste, Wyclef Jean, will host.
There are three sets of categories: Soca, Reggae and Dancehall.
Trinis feature prominently in the Soca categories, with nominations for Destra Garcia, Patrice Roberts, Fay-Ann Lyons-Alvarez, Nailah Blackman, Kes, Machel Montano, Voice, Bunji Garlin etc…
The other Reggae meanwhile sees nominations for industry veterans such as Sizzla, Shaggy and Beres Hammond, as well as relative newcomers like Koffee and Shenseea.
Other nods to note:
- People’s Choice: nominations for Kes and Patrice Roberts.
- Artiste of the Decade: nominations for Bounty Killa, Kes The Band, Beenie Man, Machel Montano, Mavado, Chronixx, and Vybz Kartel.
- Music Event of the Year: nominated is Soca Kingdom – Machel’s 40th Anniversary concert in NYC.
Meanwhile, there’s also Melly Rose, who is up for Best New Artiste in the Soca Category.
She is nominated alongside Anika Berry, Tempa, Shireen B, Faith Callender and Leonce.
In a statement, Melly Rose says, “It’s an absolute honor to be recognized among esteemed artists in the Caribbean music industry. I’m deeply grateful for my fans’ support, inspiring and motivating me every step of the way.”
Her music includes the hit single “Amazing”, which has been well received for its soulful melody and heartfelt lyrics.
