England pacer Stuart Broad to retire

Veteran English fast bowler Stuart Broad has announced his intent to retire from international cricket at the end of the ongoing Ashes Series against Australia.

Broad made his decision on the evening of the second day of the ongoing fifth and final Test at The Oval in London, and informed his long-standing team-mates James Anderson and Joe Root the next day.

He will end his career as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in Test history, and second for England among seam bowlers behind only his team-mate Anderson, after reaching 600 Test wickets during the fourth Ashes Test.

He has a chance of adding to his final tally, as England are bowling on the final day, hoping to dismiss Australia and win the match, essentially levelling the series.

England has already lost the Ashes, as Australia retained the urn by ensuring their opponents do not win the series outright.
