Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has announced that grants will be distributed to encourage young people to participate in club cricket and netball.
According to the Prime Minister, provisions for the grants will be made in the upcoming budget.
He was speaking this afternoon at the official sod turning ceremony for the new Palo Seco Velodrome.
In his capacity as Chairman of a CARICOM sub-committee on sport, Dr Rowley said club cricket participation has declined.
He believes more club cricket is needed as it lays a good foundation to create good players at the regional level.
