Finance Minister weighs in on latest S&P outlook

Finance Minister Colm Imbert has weighed in on the latest outlook from ratings agency, Standard & Poor’s.

Today, S&P affirmed T&T’s BBB credit rating, with a stable outlook.

In the S&P rating scale, a rating of ‘BBB-‘ or above is generally considered to be “investment-grade”.

In a statement, Mr Imbert says the affirmation is a positive development, as T&T is one of the few Investment Grade countries within the Latin America and Caribbean region, and in fact, the only one in the Caribbean’.

He adds that while the credit rating had a negative outlook up to July of last year, the country’s economic and financial performance, along with its institutional stability, helped to stabilize the outlook thereafter.
