Council considers two complaints against PNM

The Council for Responsible Political Behaviour has considered two complaints made by the UNC regarding recent statements by the PNM.

According to the council, the first complaint related to the language used by PNM Leader Dr Keith Rowley at a public meeting on July 15th in San Fernando.

It says that he alluded to events which have not been linked to the UNC and such statements can be deemed unsubstantiated allegations and a breach of the Code of Ethical Political Conduct.

In the other matter, the council heard a complaint that two PNM candidates were advertising themselves as having the ability to assist or facilitate access to state grants.

The council believes the tone of one of the flyers referenced by the UNC gives the impression that it is an inducement for persons to visit the candidates’ campaign offices to access state managed services.

The council reminds that the Code prohibits the use of funds derived from any source – public or private – to improperly influence electoral choices.
