Local production company to put on live East Indian play at SAPA

On the back of its success with the film “Aagman”, local production company Parsan Productions is set to host a live East Indian play called “Raja Chauhan”.

Speaking to 103.1FM, Parsan Productions Chairman Varuna Parsan explains that the company is seeking to raise the bar for the quality of East Indian theatre in T&T.

According to Ms Parsan, the play is based on a story represented in a 2022 Akshay Kumar Bollywood movie called “Samrat Prithviraj”, which follows the story of Rajput warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan.

She notes that, for the play, and just like with “Aagman”, her sister and Parsan Productions Artistic Director/co-founder Dr Neera Parsan has written and composed original music, which can be found on the company’s YouTube channel – Parsan Productions – YouTube.

The play will be held at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts on August 12th, 2023 from 7pm.

People can contact Varuna at 399-3161 for tickets and, closer to the date of the event, tickets will also be available at the SAPA box office.

Tickets cost $150 and $100 for adults’ and kids’ general admission and $250 and $200 for adults’ and kids’ VIP.

In November 2022 at SAPA, Parsan Productions premiered its locally produced movie, Aagman, which took inspiration from the tales told about East Indian indentured labourers in T&T.

The movie also received a premiere at Queen’s Hall in Port of Spain in January 2023, followed by a number of screenings at communities across the country.

It also featured original music produced by Dr Parsan and, according to Parsan Productions, it received international recognition through a screening at the Global Girmit Institute in Fiji in May 2023.
