Landslides/mudslides affect thousands in Gran Couva and Tabaquite

Since November last year, several landslides remain unaddressed along the Gran Couva Main Road.

Chairman of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation, Henry Awong told 103.1FM News that thousands are impacted, as the road links several communities such as Gran Couva, Pepper Village, Brasso and Flanagin Town.

He highlighted two landslides, one of which is completely blocking the Main Road.

Mr Awong said another landslide is partially blocking the road and affecting operations at the Brasso police officers.

He added that the Corporation conducted temporary works to allow emergency vehicles to pass, but urgent attention is required.

Meanwhile, a mudslide has been blocking the Guaracara-Tabaquite Road for almost a year.

Residents protested last month, calling on the Works Ministry to address the matter.

While the Ministry has since kept an excavator at the site to conduct daily works, Mr Awong said a permanent solution is needed.
