Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the Prime Minister did not follow due process to recall Parliament for a sitting next Wednesday.
At a PNM meeting in El Dorado last night, Dr Keith Rowley said he would direct the Leader of Government Business to recall Parliament to make amendments to the procurement legislation.
The current law prevents companies from doing business with the State in under two months, with regard to facilitating tenders and receiving advice from a procurement committee.
At a media conference this morning, Mrs Persad-Bissessar said Parliament is on recess until September and that the Leader of Government Business does not have the power to call a sitting during this period.
She said only the House Speaker has the lawful authority to convene a special sitting and warned that if the proper process is not followed, Opposition MPs may not attend the sitting next week.
