Finance Minister Colm Imbert is defending a three-month Order for goods and services associated with visits by foreign dignitaries to be exempted from the Public Procurement Act.
The Order was signed by Mr Imbert just days before the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting in T&T.
The UNC has questioned its legality and alleged that it would allow PNM financiers to bring in resources for the Local Government Elections.
At a media briefing today, Mr Imbert said attendance confirmation for certain dignitaries came shortly before the CARICOM event, leaving little time for the organization of resources.
Mr Imbert also dismissed questions regarding the Order’s legality.
