St Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen is questioning whether various issues will be resolved, following the granting of Borough status to Siparia.

That region and Diego Martin were reportedly elevated to Boroughs after legislation was passed in the Parliament last month.

During a media conference this morning, Ms Ameen said an assessment should have been conducted to determine the region’s needs.

Ms Ameen said the change in status will also result in a significant cost to the Corporation.

Also at the media conference was Chairman of the Siparia Corporation, Dinesh Sankersingh, who lamented that State funding has not been received to provide important services to burgesses.
