Ex-minister calls for probe into alleged Mt Hope hospital blackouts

A former government Minister is calling for an investigation into allegations of power blackouts at the hospital in Mt Hope.

Dr Tim Gopeesingh, in a media release, says information from sources indicate that a blackout occurred as recently as yesterday.

He also claims that the hospital’s generator has not been functioning and, as a result, patients’ safety has been compromised and doctors’ ability to perform critical surgeries has been affected.

Dr Gopeesingh says nothing can justify this alleged situation and says Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley must launch an independent investigation into the state of affairs at the Mt Hope hospital.

Meanwhile, Fyzabad MP Dr Lackram Bodoe says a report in the T&T Express of the power outage due to a malfunctioning transformer is troubling.

Dr Bodoe says the revelation in the article by NCRHA CEO Davlin Thomas that the transformer involved was recently upgraded is even more troubling.

The MP believes it is incumbent upon the Health Minister to launch an immediate enquiry into the power failures and to call to account those responsible for the failure.
