Former Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Amery Browne is calling on the Government to adopt a more diplomatic approach moving forward with regard to Venezuela.
Recently, Venezuela’s Justice Minister said they would pursue anyone attempting to destabilise his country, after a T&T national was allegedly detained as part of a paramilitary group in Venezuela.
This subsequently led Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to declare last week that T&T was off limits to Venezuela, with the COast Guard placed on alert.
He believes the recent comments by the Prime Minister were not prudent, and could have consequences.
For one, he believes it could impact a bid started by the previous Government for T&T top secure a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
