The Defence Ministry is investigating claims that Colombian paramilitary groups are entering eastern Venezuela through T&T.

The allegation was made recently by Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro.

The Ministry says preliminary findings indicate there is currently no evidence to support these allegations.

However, it says immediate and decisive steps are being taken to address the matter with “the utmost seriousness and urgency”.

The Ministry is working closely with law enforcement agencies and security forces to enhance surveillance and reinforce border security in critical areas.

It says it will also engage with Venezuela through the appropriate diplomatic channels to gather any relevant information or evidence.
