A prison officer and his female companion have been charged in connection with a missing firearm issued by the Prison Service
On March 27th, the officer made a report stating that he was robbed of the weapon while in the vicinity of the Aquatic Centre car park, on Mt. St. Benedict Road, St. Augustine.
He claims the two bandits also made off with two magazines containing 26 rounds of ammunition.
Following a thorough investigation, charges were laid against Ricardo Sam and Leana Shende for Wasteful Employment of Police Time.
Sam was also charged with Negligence, to wit Failure to Secure a Firearm and Ammunition Being the Property of T&T Prison Service.
He was granted $125,000 bail, while Shende was granted $50,000 bail by a Justice of the Peace Ali.
Both are scheduled to appear in the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court on 24th June, 2025.
