The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is once again calling on motorists to exercise heightened caution on the nation’s roads, following a troubling increase in road traffic fatalities coinciding with the start of the rainy season.
With wet and slippery conditions now a daily concern, the TTPS warns that speeding poses an even greater danger. Drivers are reminded that excessive speed reduces reaction time, lengthens braking distance, and significantly increases the risk of serious or fatal collisions.
The TTPS is also stressing the importance of vehicle maintenance—particularly the condition of tyres. Proper tyre traction is essential for safe driving on wet roads, and worn or under-inflated tyres greatly raise the likelihood of skidding or hydroplaning.
As part of its continued commitment to road safety, the TTPS conducted a Speed Enforcement Operation on Thursday, May 23, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. along the northbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway near the Indian Trail overpass. During this initiative, 16 Electronic Fixed Penalty Notices were issued for speeding violations.
The TTPS advises that similar enforcement exercises will be carried out regularly and across various locations.
Their message remains clear: Obey the Speed Limits. Slow Down. Save Lives.
