Wade Mark is the new Senate President, while Kenya Charles will serve as Senate Vice President.
Meanwhile in the House of Representatives, attorney Jagdeo Singh has been appointed House Speaker, with Dr Aiyna Ali as Deputy House Speaker.
All four took their oaths during today’s ceremonial opening of the 13th Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago.
Also taking Parliamentary oaths were members of both the Lower and Upper Houses.
Present for today’s ceremonial opening were Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley and former President of T&T Anthony Carmona.
Addressing both Houses afterward was President Christine Kangaloo, who urged members to work together for the benefit of citizens.
She also got personal, as she directly addressed Government’s stated intention to scrap the Demerit Points System.
The President also suggested Parliamentary interventions in addressing issues relating to crime, the economy, Artificial Intelligence, and with respect to persons with disabilities.
Also delivering remarks was Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles-Robinson.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar vowed to pass laws that protect and uplift citizens, as she vowed to address crime, help the working class and review tax burdens.
She also called on all MPs to speak for the people.
Meanwhile, Mrs Beckles-Robinson said while she expects passionate debate, the interests of the people should always come first.
