Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says she will release a list showing how much money was spent on rent by the Government.

During today’s post-cabinet news briefing, she revealed that $493 million was paid to landlords in fiscal 2024.

She questioned some of the rental agreements and insisted that the public has a right to know how tax dollars were being spent.

Government will also move to cut the amount of money being spent on rent.

A short term measure will be to have the Public Administration Ministry renegotiate rental agreements.

Other measures will include full use of properties owned by the State and the construction of buildings to house Ministries and government departments.
