The Government has received a gift of rice and edible oil from one of India’s largest agricultural companies.
India’s High Commissioner Pradeep Singh Rajpurohit today presented the donation of 19,000 kgs of basmati rice and 12,500 litres of edible sunflower and mustard oil.
Agriculture Minister Ravi Ratiram said it will be distributed to underprivileged and vulnerable families across the country.
The products are from of the Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd (HAFED).
This initiative began under the previous administration when former Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley headed a business delegation to the facility in India last year.
Meanwhile, the High Commissioner also confirmed that agro-processing equipment valued at US $1 million is expected to be delivered to NAMDEVCO within the next few months.
This, he said, had been specially designed for NAMDEVCO and will be used for the processing of fruits and vegetables.
