Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen says the recent rains and flooding have allowed authorities to pinpoint “very problematic areas” that need to be addressed.
She also told 103.1FM News this afternoon that feedback from the public will be crucial moving into the Wet Season.
Following yesterday’s rainfall and flooding, work is underway in several areas to clear waterways and address other issues.
Minister Ameen was also asked about the Caroni River, which burst its banks in El Carmen this morning, and remains high at this time.
All Municipal Corporations have sandbags in stock and persons are being urged to collect these early to protect their homes and properties.
Ms Ameen is also encouraging persons to report issues within their community to the Municipal Corporation or the Ministry.
