Government reviewing appointments to Industrial Court

Government is moving to review appointments made to the Industrial Court.

In a statement, the Office of the Attorney General said the Cabinet meeting on May 8th saw a decision to “have another look at the recommended appointments by the last Government for members to positions on the Industrial Court and the Special Tribunal.”

These appointments were to cover periods from May 7th 2025 to June 30th 2025.

The statement adds, “This Government believes that the composition of the Court should reflect the viewpoints of a wider range of persons including, most importantly, members of the labour movement.”

As such, it says the Cabinet has agreed to reconsider new long term appointments with this perspective in mind.

President Christine Kangaloo has granted a short extension of time to sitting members so that the Court’s operations will not be affected during the review.
