The PNM’s Dominic Romain has won the Malabar/Mausica constituency in the 2025 General Elections.
This was confirmed today by the Elections and Boundaries Commission, which says a comprehensive and transparent recount process saw the preliminary results for the seat remain largely unchanged.
It says the results of the Malabar/Mausica recount had a marginal adjustment in vote totals and were recorded as follows:
- PNM – 7,691
- UNC – 7,437
- Patriotic Front (PF) – 834
- Rejected Ballots – 45
The EBC says the recount was conducted in full accordance with established electoral laws and procedures, pursuant to Election Rule 101, due to a formal request by the UNC for general recounts, including poll card verifications, in three constituencies.
Recounts for the Arouca/Lopinot and San Fernando East constituencies are currently ongoing.
UNC’s Malabar/Mausica candidate responds to recount result.
Responding to the result for the Malabar/Mausica recount was the UNC’s candidate Dominic Smith, who thanked persons for their support.
In a statement shared on social media he said, “We may have lost by a mere 254 votes, but this campaign was never just about a number. It was about a movement, a movement to reimagine what leadership can look like in our communities.”
He adds that this will not be the end of his work saying, “I came to serve, and I still will.”
