The Ayodhya Municipal Corporation has banned the sale of liquor, meat, cigarettes and other items along the 14 km Ram Paath, the road which connects Ayodhya and nearby Faizabad.
The Times of India reported that Ayodhya’s mayor said it was done to maintain respect for the path which bears the name of the Hindu diety Lord Rama.
The new proposal also prohibits the sale of products like paan and bidi and advertisements for cigarettes, men’s and women’s undergarments on the religious route.
