New AG prioritizes crime fighting

Newly instated Attorney General John Jeremie says his Ministry will prioritize crime and work urgently with the National Security Ministry to address the issue.

Speaking yesterday after taking his oath of office at President’s House, he said he was not pleased with the legislative agenda used to address crime in the last 10 years.

Mr Jeremie added that his role as AG will be to maintain the rule of law and act as a defender for T&T’s citizens.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said her decision to select Mr Jeremie as AG was due in part to his brilliance and humility.

Mr Jeremie previously served as AG under Patrick Manning’s Government from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2009 to 2010.

He is now the first person to hold the position under two political parties.
