UNC calls for the removal of two EBC officers

The UNC is calling for the removal of the EBC’s Deputy Chief Election Officer and Assistant Chief Election Officer.

In a statement, the UNC said it was invited by the EBC to send one representative each to Port of Spain, San Fernando and Tobago for the handing over of special ballots on Saturday.

It did so, sending Nyree Alfonso and Michael Rooplal.

The party adds however that the PNM had multiple representatives at the same events.

In a letter to the EBC, the party says when objections were raised by Mr Rooplal at the San Fernando event, the Assistant Chief Election Officer allegedly indicated that a rep was being allowed for each constituency.

The party insists this was not communicated in the EBC’s letter inviting the UNC to the handing over.

In Port of Spain meanwhile, Ms Alfonso says while three PNM representatives were initially present, two left and one other joined later, meaning two PNM reps were present by the end.

The UNC’s letter to the EBC ends by declaring a loss of confidence in the Deputy Chief Election Officer and Assistant Chief Election Officer, and calls for their removal.
