Visual impaired community appeals for inclusivity and equity

Blind Welfare Association Executive Officer Kenneth Suratt is calling for inclusivity and equity for the visually impaired community in the country’s parliament.

Speaking to 103.1FM News this morning, Mr Suratt said that if they can get at least one senatorial position, they can make a valuable contribution to the country’s development.

Mr Suratt also outlined what he hoped could come after the 2025 General Election.

According to Mr Suratt, since election campaigning began, he did not hear any political party make any advocacy for the visually impaired and by extension differently abled persons.

In a Facebook post on April 9th, the Blind Welfare Association appealed to General Election candidates to improve the lives of the blind and visually impaired.

It added that persons with visual impairments continue to face significant challenges that hinder their full participation in society and outlined a list of issues for candidates to consider including equal access to education and healthcare.
