Belize confirms 2 cases of measles

Belize has confirmed the country’s first measles cases in more than three decades.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health & Wellness, two individuals tested positive for the virus after recently returning from a trip to Mexico.

They arrived in Belize on March 31st as part of a larger group, all of whom are now in isolation and under medical supervision.

The Ministry has also since intensified national surveillance efforts, particularly for fever and rash symptoms.

These are the first recorded measles cases in Belize since 1991.
